Insurance City Bowling Senate of The National Bowling Association, Inc.

Where did it all begin?
The Insurance City Senate (ICS) of The National Bowling Association, Inc. (TNBA) was conceived in January, 1975.
With information from now deceased members Mutt Hill and Jim Gordon, who were both longtime members of TNBA through the National office, the idea of the Hartford Senate was born.
April 23, 1975 - With the help of Margaret S. Lee, who was the National Secretary/Treasurer at that time, and Frank Harwell, who was the Eastern Regional Field Representative, the Senate became a reality (see Charter).
Senate's first attendance at TNBA Convention & Tournament - Under Wilbert Bellamy, the first president, and the late Jimmie Mae Scott (first secretary) the Insurance City Senate sent 13 members to The National Bowling Association's National Convention and Tournament in Milwaukee. Jimmie Mae Scott and Marilyn Arnum were honorary delegates to this convention. From this convention, Marilyn Arnum was chosen as recording secretary for the 1975 National Board Meeting in Atlanta, GA.
Junior Program - In June 1975, we received a request from Frank Harwell, Director of Jimmy's Juniors in Philadelphia, to host a match with his junior league. They would bring 5 boys and 5 girls to bowl against our young folks. We did not have a junior program at that time, so we called on Bob Davis' sons Bobby and Billy (who later became 200 average bowlers); Jimmie Mae Scott's two daughters Angie and Barbara (they never took up the sport) and Marilyn Arnum's daughter
Vicki Arnum (a very active member of the Senate), just to name a few. We are now very active in the Junior League Program, certified by USBC and TNBA. The Junior league bowls at at AMF Silver Lanes, East Hartford, CT.
With the help of Al Bridges the new Eastern Regional Field Representative, the senate began to flourish. We soon started traveling around the region to the various senates' doubles tournaments, and annually to the Eastern Regional Tournament in Willow Grove, PA and later to New Brunswick, New Jersey.
First TNBA-certified League - The Senate started with one league, a Mixed Doubles Scratch League with 8 teams, bowling at AMf Meadows Lanes in Hartford (no longer exists), under the direction of Lucille Bartee, President. We now have TNBA-certified leagues at South Windsor Tenpin and AMF Silver Lanes.
The Eastern Regional Senates' Souvenir Program benefitted from the efforts of Jake Trotman (Chairperson for 3 years) and Gertha Billington (Chairperson for 5 years), who between them raised over $14,000 for the junior program.
